DEMARCATION OF NORMAL & ABNORMAL THINKING

NATURAL, ABNORMAL & CREATIVE THINKING

(Answer to most-asked questions about daily life and thinking process)

Thinking as part of living being is in all the birds and animals, even the one-cell amoeba is part of it. As already narrated, a newly-born baby enters the world crying on leaving a natural, conditioned environment (mother’s womb) with standardized facilities. When he gets breast milk in a cozy place, and enjoys a sound sleep, he expresses with a smile when talked to with a smiling face. It is important to note that a mentally healthy child’s life starts happily, then why does he get stuck in mental strains and abnormalities? Actually, an innocent child’s mental process is polluted with confused goals, irrational belief system, extreme values, and anxiety-inducing experiences leading to fears of self-survival. As already analyzed on the subject of, “LIFE IS A NONSTOP PROCESS OF CHANGE (inside or outside), along the series of articles on Art of Word Selection, Effective Communication, Feedback etc., it is further added with clinical data that the variant challenges and complications start just on entering of an innocent infant in the environmental variables. It is a natural phenomenon that the organ of body which is excessively used becomes powerful and dominant. Therefore, biologically and psychologically human genes are refined over generations in the brain due to its constant application to handle the crisis of life under self-survival whereas the other body organs have reduced in length or strength over the period of time. Life starts with need fulfilment and demands as a reinforcement. So, the natural thinking process is fixed by the self-concept as in computer programing. If the data is over-loaded and used nonstop, the computer goes out of control, as with a virus. During dealings in life, a person assesses and makes decisions according to his self-concept. As a result of it, he evaluates himself as plus or minus and remains involved in multiplying processes of behavior evaluation as right or wrong in the set social standard.  Every living being is born with feelings and thinking skills. Human being as a distinctive rational being and deputy (Naib) is given rational kills and freedom of choice within own self to make decisions and act with free will. It is reminded to mankind in Surah Al-Alaq V-96: 1-8,” Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)], Has taught man that which he knew not.  Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.).  Because he considers himself self-sufficient. Surely! Unto your Lord is the return.” A natural thinking process can be discriminated between Non-creative thinking (fantasies) and Creative (Meaningful) thinking. Healthy thinking is always purposeful in nature. The creative thinking is mostly based on the four stages like preparation, data collection, incubation/inspiration, and verification. In this respect, a logical thinker applies observations, feelings, and realistic goals according to age and learning to draw productive conclusions according to individual capacity.  The feedback system assists in adjusting goals for productive results, whereas merely philosophical thinking is without action or confirmation of results. Therefore, goal-directed and planned realistic thinking leads to creativity, mental satisfaction, and self-respect. In order to avoid confusion and complications in thinking process, primarily a student of psychology is trained to learns the steps to complete a project in the Rational Decision-Making Model. In this process, first he defines the problem, then he identifies the decision criteria, thirdly he allocates weight to the criteria, then develops the alternatives after evaluation and lastly, he selects the best alternatives before acting out to achieve his target in a project. At higher thinking processes, students are trained through research projects, internships, etc. The higher stages of thinking are enlightened when a person adapts the advance stages of creativity like a scientific strategy. The creativity process is based on the three Components of creativity which an individual applies to produce novel and useful ideas. In this regard, the three-component model of creativity is dependent on an individual’s expertise, creative thinking skills and intrinsic task motivation. As an important tool to achievement in this world, it is based on the role of motivation level of distinction in Human beings. This organizational skill is based on the development process of a child’s grooming that how he induces his individual drives, role models in social set-up, social conditioning, built-in reinforcement system, discipline training based on the application of behavior modification, reward or punishment system (Continuous, Time, Interval, Fixed, Intermittent and Ratio of Reward or Punishment).  So, in this respect, the art of using the intellectual energy within a person is guided by the direction given to an innocent child. In fact, each individual develops his own inner mechanism of self-appreciation or rejection criteria to meet goals of his life through a thinking process. In short, the nature of thinking, application of reasoning tools and achievement level through motivation tools are all dependent on the grooming, educational and personality development practices by the parents and significant others of an individual.  In the present day, families do not properly pay attention to babies who are genetically more sensitive and sharper but become secluded by baby-sitting or TV exposure. Labelling, being ignored and rejected, lonesomeness, insecurity, no appreciation, etc., makes them self-critical, helpless, self-protective, worrying, over-concerned of others’ approval and being misfits, aggressive, anxious, bored, incompetent, dependent and subject to trouble.

DEMARCATION BETWEEN NATURAL, ABNORMAL & CREATIVE THINKING Clinically, each mental process is a component of knowing, feeling, and thinking. So, an individual’s balanced personality is based on the component of cogitation, affection, and conation. If they are integrative, meaningful and balanced, that person takes an action. The speed of thinking and feelings is dependent on God-gifted I.Q., bio-chemical system and physique (normal/handicapped), social environment and reinforcers in a family. A controlled or uncontrolled thinking pattern emerges over the level of physical and psychological needs provided to a person as gender, class, status, family make-up and individual concerns. This habit pattern is set in the early life experience and significant other worrying models The criteria of Islamic thinking are based on the pillars of yashadoona, yaqaloon, yatadabaroona, yatafaqroon, etc.

CONTINUATION ABOUT DEMARCATION OF VARIOUS THINKING

Clinically, an unbalanced personality has extreme imbalance in relationships between cognition, affection or conation. If a person applies less cognitive aspect but more affective and conative, then he behaves like a philosopher lost in thoughts and feels like daydreaming by avoiding the surroundings. Whereas if he is over-applying the cognitive with affective but less conative part, then he would be short-sighted and carefree about future goals and responsibility. If he is applying cognitive and conative aspects more than affective aspects, he will be blindly lost in compelling thoughts like an obsessed person or hoarding as a crazy person without enjoying life. Mostly, anxiety develops when a person is overcharged by his self-created interwoven thoughts without environmental reality.  One must be alert to avoid generalization, have control on predisposition, rather focusing on a target. Mostly people are tricked through self-assumptions, so one should be alert in making false-judgement based on subjective devotion or a trend for some desired results. One should follow the strict law of observation, reasoning and logic as the basic tools of data collection under principles WWWHWW and stick to concerned variable without wasting time in ifs and buts, see under law of association and verification the interlink between various factor to draw a conclusion, no hearsay, observe the facts and scientific approach like writing a research paper or a comprehensive essay like introduction, body and its conclusion. Mental process or Ruh is nonstop and keeps getting refined by nature till death; it is also overcharged when pushed back, turning into anxiety like a suffocating baby. Will of Lord is always betterment to His servants who have limited vision to correct and balanced his thinking and deeds as he is declared to be a Mutatarif (Extremist), Aneed (Rebel), Zanoon (Subjective assumptions), Khasem (Argumentative), Mujrim (Incriminating), Murtaab (Doubtful), Mufsed (Trouble-maker), Munkir (Obstinate), Maghroor (Arrogant), Zaeef (Emotionally Weak), Fawish (Shameful deeds/Malicious), Zalem (Cruel), Jahel (Ignorant), Insaan (Forgetful/short memory), Jabbar (Tyrant), Mojaadel (Adverse), Zani (Deviant), Mutakabir (Boasting), Ghasib (Plundering), Maaker (Cunning), Munaafiq (Hypocrite), Fitna (Conspirator/troublesome), Khabith (Dirty minded), Ghyr munsif (Unfair), Kaabid (Taking hardship/Restless), Fasiq (Immoral), Aajola (Hasty),Yasooa (Turning Bad), Khazool (Betrayer), Tawalaha (Altering the narrated fact), Faajer (Wicked/obscene), Kaazeb (Liar), Jadool (Argumentative, Quarrelsome) Taghoot (Tyrant), Adoola (Reactive), Fakhoor (Exhibitionist) Umyun (Short-sighted), Sumun (Deaf), Nadimeen (Repenter), Nafsee (Selfish/Self-willed), Haased (Jealous), maaker (Conspirator), Mureeb (Blocked with confusion), Kharasoon (Story-maker/day dreamer), Muftenoon (Insane/crazy), Kaluha (Easily dishearten), Farara (Reluctant), Saroora (Deranged), Tatamara (Antagonist/argumentative), Aashir (Self-centered), Alaudoon (Crossing limits) ), Bidaha (Mixing to facts), Sahoon (Lost in direction), Ghafiloon (Callous),Muqsam (Disintegrator/manipulator), Zahed (Retaliator), , Mutufafeen (Cheater), Ghaween (Lost) etc. under temptations. So, he is reminded in Islam, a practical and simple religion, has been defaced through their personal agendas, and people retaliate whenever corrected. These people use enchanting slogans to misguide the young who are already in a sentimental phase of life. They intensify the crowd’s sentiment in anniversaries to collect gifts and money from their blind followers.  Often religious people go beyond human nature and crush their self to meet the natural instinctive needs like angels. Even such person tries to control the natural flow of thoughts of sex, future dreams, etc., by considering them evil thoughts, resulting which these thoughts keep on haunting them to such an extent that they feel guilty or as rejected human beings by considering that even thoughts are evil, which is contradictory to law of justice. Often a lazy, ideal people live in fool’s paradise and want miracles to happen to make their life peaceful. Like a person who imagines he is killing someone or raping some prestigious authority as a criminal, even normal courts cannot penalize over negative thoughts till it is performed intentionally with a witness of the crime. Obsessive thoughts, compulsive thinking, fear of committing social crimes, etc., are the mental diseases of simple and pious creatures who keep taking self-revenge in excessive washing, repeating actions without apparent conditions. They waste mental energy and precious time in self-created courts of criminal proceeding and get exhausted like a running car engine without turning the gear for speeding the automobile, ending in burning out the whole engine for nothing. Repetition of a thought or a deed is unconscious unresolved anxiety with fear or guilt feelings to get out of its pain. Such thinking pattern emerges in the early life when a child is overloaded with philosophical and religious thoughts with anxiety. It leads to impulsivity in thought process which becomes the origin of various neurotic patterns like obsession-compulsion disorder and anxiety disorders like psychosomatic ailments. This trend is increasing in the present era of hectic life. Mostly, clients are involved in negative self-assessment and keep adding guilt feelings without performing the repressed id impulses, increase suicidal ideation without any reason.                                                                                              (Cont'd in the Book)
