Life is a Nonstop Process of Change


Since an individual originates, the mental process or Ruh is nonstop and keeps on refining by nature till death; when it is overcharged and pushed back, it turns to have anxiety like a suffocating baby. As it is of an exploratory nature, it interacts with the surroundings. About human nature, it is revealed in Al-Kaaf V-18:45-46,” And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds (five compulsory prayers, deeds of Allah's obedience, good and nice talk, remembrance of Allah with glorification, praises and thanks, etc.), that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope.”

As presented in the given chain of human interaction in this world (W), there are uncountable stimuli (S), interacting on the organism (O) who makes a selective response (R) in this world (W) during the life period. So, this complicated process goes on in shaping his individual thought pattern, perception, personality, moods etc.

Within an organism (WHO) each mental functioning process is enacted as knowing (WHAT), when at a place or a time is happening (HOW) and thinking (WHY) to react to it (WHOM). People mostly communicate/share with incomplete data which lead to confusion and false perception and lead the listener toward a false perception. When a person is provided incomplete, fake and fade information, illogical or over-loaded knowledge, he gets confused and lose self-control over his thoughts. As a result of it, He gets psychologically sick to handle the situation. Naturally, its solution lies to change his faulty thinking process and complete the vague phantasies. For which must be furnished with a sold knowledge to resolve the haunting thoughts for his recovery from the chains of thoughts. Therefore, the parent and teachers or a psychologist must train a child/individual to ask what, why, when, where and how to complete thoughts for deciding or taking action in life.

It is a natural phenomenon that an organ of body which is excessively used becomes powerful and dominant. Therefore, biologically and psychologically, human genes are refined over generations in the brain due to its constant application to handle crises under self-survival whereas the other body organs are reduced in strength over the period of time.

Irrespective of any school of thought, each mental process is a component of knowing, feeling, and thinking. Later, this habit pattern sets the mood, temperament and personality models in an individual which he carries on throughout his life in human affairs. Therefore, an individual’s balanced personality is based on the component of cogitation, affection, and conation. If they are integrative, meaningful and balanced, that person like a scientist takes an action and passes a flexible, peaceful life. The speed of thinking and feelings is dependent on God gifted I.Q., bio-chemical system and physique (normal/handicapped), social environment and reinforcers in a family. People mostly forget the emotional needs of fellow human beings as they are lost in the flow of wishful thinking and least concerned about the significant others. They cannot even discriminate between right and wrong, so they hurt other’s feelings and rights. It is stated in V-6:32, “And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the Hereafter for those who are Al-Muttaqun. Will you not the understand?”


Clinically, repetition of a thought or a deed is unconscious, unresolved anxiety with fear or guilt feelings to get out of its pain. So, thinking for the sake of thinking is a fantasy by not utilizing the mental energy in completing a thought, a habit pattern (like an empty, purposeless mind is a devil’s workshop) using negative attention seeking behavior. A rigid personality has extreme, imbalanced relationships between cognition, affection or conation. If a person applies less cognitive but more affective and conative aspects, then he behaves like a philosopher lost in thoughts and is involved in daydreaming by avoiding the surroundings. Whereas if he is over-applying the cognitive with affective but less conative part, then he would be sentimental with short-sightedness and carefree about future goals or responsibility. If he is applying cognitive and conative aspects more than affective aspects, he will be blindly lost in compelling thoughts like an obsessed person or hoarding as a crazy person without enjoying life. 

Keeping in view human nature, authentic information is provided in the Quran to keep balance in life affairs. To address the people of various origin and cultures (status, gender, ethnicities, etc.), universal code of ethics, social rights and duties are implemented for a judicious society. It is quoted that there will be no change in the laws of Allah for even the arrogant, in Al-Fatir V-36:43,” (They took to flight because of their) arrogance in the land and their plotting of evil. But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. Then, can they expect anything (else), but the Sunnah (way of dealing) of the peoples of old? So, no change will you find in Allah's Sunnah (way of dealing), and no turning off will you find in Allah's Sunnah (way of dealing).”

Mostly anxiety develops when a person is overcharged by his self-created interwoven thoughts with poor contact with the environmental realities. The people who waste their energy in thinking by researching ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ without planned action live in fool’s paradise. As a result, their blocked energy turns into the state of anxiety, depression and helplessness. On the other hand, when a person who feels to be over-confident, has an inflated ego faces a collapse, his mental deterioration is extreme in forms like aggression or acute depression. It is like in an accident, in which when a person who is at a higher place falls, he has the worst physical destruction. So, such person creates social issues for the community and habitants have also to face the unpleasant and evil consequences. 

The basic purpose of a civilized society is to educate and create awareness in the masses for a homogeneous life. In this respect, Islam has repeatedly quoted the guidelines to pass a smooth peaceful life. Therefore, before guiding to pass a balanced social life, it is reminded to human beings to follow the set principles. In 

An-Nur V-24:1,” (This is) a Surah (chapter of the Qur'an) which We have sent down and which We have enjoined, (ordained its legal laws) and in it We have revealed manifest Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations lawful and unlawful things, and set boundaries of Islamic Religion), that you may remember.”

As a basic principle of mental health, the present moment is in the hands of a person since the past has gone forever and nobody knows about definite future as billions of stimuli interact in and out of a mental process at a time. Therefore, live in the present, feel the present and act within the present circumstances. So, one should utilize the moment according to your own capacity for fruitful results, otherwise you are just wasting even the present time and individual force to gain the desired results.

Find out What is missing and overruled by feeling and thinking in a mental process

The purpose of life of an individual is to set the direction to meet his goals. It depends on the mental set, training and application of an individual’s environmental factors where he applies and develop a thinking pattern, belief system and particular personality traits to meet his challenges or needs. At times, repressed thoughts with anxiety make him overburdened, so blocked energy triggers unconscious behavior (What), which is important to explore in studying a person’s intentions.

Therefore, one must go after the causes (Why) of a complex project to find (what, where & when) and then gradually resolve practically with reason. Instead of wasting time in looking (why) the causes, rather people rush to complete the gap of activity between now and then to complete that sentence. Wasting time on irrational goals or belief system injected in early age can be corrected if proper analyses are activated rationally as human beings born with a clean slate of mind have polluted the training and habit formation process through negative conditioning. Allah is not your personal worker who will come to help you with miracles in social disasters, rather everyone is responsible for man-made disasters as they contributed as a cause for such ugly deeds. Blaming is wasting time and detracting from the original goal for its solution.

Thinking for the sake of thinking is a habit formation as child was never listened or observed to create healthy, purposeful thinking. In daily life, certain people among us are trapped in thoughts who are fearing an object or their own created thoughts, and performing for the sake of performing aimlessly without stopping the chain of thoughts by asking their self the reason (why). The solution lies in the Feedback (Why) as it will enable you to correct or redirect your energy for a purpose.

Therefore, it is reminded to ask before an action what is the purpose of this thinking, eating, roaming, etc. Mere eating, drinking or following a self-orientated activity without a cause is like an idiot who is sitting aimlessly doing certain rituals without a purpose.

For progress to come out of the old rut of fantasies, one must start practices to have daily self-accountability of the daily performance before setting goals for the next day; otherwise, incomplete thoughts without fruitful results keep on hunting a person later and this pattern of thinking converts into various abnormal behaviors and thinking chains.

Long planning without systematic activity and self-appreciation results in non-satisfaction, low self-esteem, inferiority and self-punishment process within a person. 

Qur’anic directions are to mankind to be aware of others’ feelings in social interaction and minute daily affairs, avoiding even how to check one’s self before taking social action. They will have to face their deeds as Allah is aware of it, is narrated in V-6:59-62,” And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in (or on) the earth and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but he knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record. It is He, Who takes your souls by night (when you are asleep), and has knowledge of all that you have done by day, then he raises (wakes) you up again that a term appointed (your life period) be fulfilled, then in the end unto Him will be your return. Then He will inform you what you used to do. He is the Irresistible, Supreme over His slaves, and He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one's good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you, Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistants) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty. Then they are returned to Allah, their Maula [True Master (God), the Just Lord (to reward them)]. Surely, His is the judgement and He is the Swiftest in taking account”. 

The great nations learn from the history for self-correction. The analysis cells equip them on the pre-cautionary measures as a feedback in a crisis. In the current history, political powers play critical role on dependent nations in war situation. So those who become careless in war like crisis and look forward of miracles as foreign help, added more social crisis, as they waited till a situation deteriorated and the enemy took benefit of it. It is warned in V-8:51-53,"This is because of that which your hands had forwarded. And verily, Allah is not unjust to His slaves." Similar to the behavior of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and of those before them; they rejected the Ayat (proofs, verses, etc.) of Allah, so Allah punished them for their sins. Verily, Allah is All-Strong, Severe in punishment. That is so because Allah will never change a grace which He has bestowed on a people until they change what is in their own-selves. And verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.”

Self-correction in obsessive thoughts can be achieved gradually prior to repeating it by asking one’s self why to repeat for what purpose at this time by me. Instead of concentrating on a task, people look for miracles of divine support to meet their ends. People beg a saint, pier or fakir for prayers with a token to gain wealth or for children who instead of working hard in an examination, looks for some other sources to meet their needs

Clinically, abnormal goals, idealism, perfection and being overwhelmed by others’ personality is self-torturing. The only perfect is the Lord and no one can reach the flow of fantasies as they have no head or tail. Grumbling and wasting time and energy is injurious to the self. Collecting without enjoying is wasteful as non-satisfaction is painful as one is not aware the cause of it.

What is the use of crying over spilt milk? Just reset the computer programming and open new windows to recap the missing links; then gradually compete according to self-capacity as no one can change you and your fate is within your own hand. 

Only praying will develop confidence toward a positive self as after praying devotedly, you will have a goal-directed activity. Allah is not your worker coming to give you a degree or a job, etc. It is your devotion and trust which will brighten your future. ……….

Life is short to enjoy in an organized manner from the given sources, so one must make it meaningful, learn from the feedback, enjoy and feel the moment in hand what you have achieved which is better in from looking at others for self-appreciation. Mostly all the great achievers in life learnt from the faults and failures, and did not repeat the same faults; rather, they changed strategies according to time, circumstances and the weaknesses of other people. No doubt one should try for the best but must prepare for the worst. So being realistic, he should not be overwhelmed and block his energy, like over speeding your mental car in thinking whose engine will get hot and gas wasted just escalating it without changing the gear, wear and tearing taking place without any gain or reward. This is the example of a depressed person with suicide ideation, an obsessive-compulsive client who never completed the process of cleaning. Or an anxiety neurosis patient with psychosomatic diseases who transferred mental energy in self-pity to seek an ideal parent figure in mature age, changing doctors to seek sympathy, attention and support like an insecure, confused child who does not know what he is and why he is doing. He is over-charged with blocked energy turning into anxiety, looking for some miracle and wasting time as a self-made doctor, trapped in his own self trying to find out the start of the rope to straighten the bundle but getting more interwoven in self-study: Why research but not taking what where and when by whom.

The best interpretation for insight is to learn in running a computer. The computer is on, lots of windows are open, contradictory programs are interacting, virus is increasing but no anti-virus program is applied, as one thinks he will resolve by himself without any professional knowledge and support. Resultingly with the passage of time, a simple wound turns out to be a cancer. The fear of self-disclosure and public opinion has jammed the computer and it is ready to burn out as the brain cannot be switched off till life is stopped through natural death, suicide is painful too.

The worst scenario of the mentally sick is a painful, purposeless and fruitless life where mental faculties were never tuned or corrected, never overhauled by an expert mechanic but rather left on the circumstances. After taking heat, it is getting out of control with the fear of how others can be more serious about it when he himself, in spite of all struggles, could not repair it, but may be others may not further hurt it as own family members knowingly ignore and damaged it. Therefore, helpless and hopeless, just struggling aimlessly in the sea of public and exhausted, he has left himself at the mercy of the waves. Maybe someday if he survived, he will touch the shore, long waited, without a meaningful goal-directed activity ending without a destination.
