Details about Islamic Mental Health Principles
Based on Human Nature Revealed 1,440 Years Ago by the Creator
The Qur’an has presented rich knowledge of mental and emotional aspects of human beings in an environment. As already pointed out, it promotes a moderate and balanced life for following the right path and fulfillment of instinctive needs. Clinically, it has been observed that at times due to the extremist practice of suppressing genuine human needs based on the preaching of semi-educated Imams/Mullahs and over-control of semi-educated orthodox elders in underdeveloped rural areas, adolescents – particularly virgins with personality impoverishment – are scared to such an extent that they become trapped in various anxieties, phobias, hysterical neuroses, and various kind of psychological sufferings.
Therefore, each individual’s psychological sufferings are primarily based on ignorance, misinformation, disinformation or self-made interpretations. Their resolution can be found through the analysis of core issues from the verses of the Holy Book. For instance, certain Muslims are afraid of being trapped by jinns or ghosts and of visiting graveyards in the dark alone. In fact, they have poor faith in the super authority of Allah who has created all the living beings, including jinns, and He has given the superiority to Adam’s children over Satan, who as jinn was ordered by Allah to prostrate before him and was rejected on his disobedience. Historically, jinn were placed under the control of Prophet Solomon. People develop illusions and hallucinations based on cultural myths, and are like a person afraid of snakes, who perceive a waving rope in the dark to be a snake. If a person’s thinking pattern is based on his false assumptions, he gets scared of his own fantasies by subduing to jinns, devils, and witches and loses faith in the authenticity of the Creator; he needs related authentic knowledge of the Qur’an with reasoning to re-establish his faith through the guidance of an authority on the Qur’anic knowledge. In fact, history has recorded that those who have strong trust (Tawakal) in Allah, overcame all the challenges and hurdles in life.
Tawheed, Taqwa and Tawakal are the essence faith of a committed practical Muslim who can face psycho-social challenges and aggressors without any fear of negative consequences in life. Psychologically, such people are straightforward in thoughts and actions, bold, and definite with self-confidence. So, they are difficult to be trapped in fantasies as they surpass superstitions and myths, and avoid human-created anxiety and concocted miracles.
Muslims were repeatedly warned to learn their lesson from the previous nations like Bani Israel who were provided knowledge and directed to fasten to the Torah. They were given the status of a blessed nation but they betrayed their oath and commitment to the Lord, so they were disgraced and other nations ruled them due to their loss of direction. Keeping in view this derailment, Muslims were warned that the words and order of Allah are fixed, so whosoever does not follow the path will be equally punished despite their titles. Now Muslims unity has gone to the tribal level, facing disgrace in the world and humiliated by the Ahl-e-kitab. Some of their betrayals to Allah are alike the Jews, as observed and perceived in the given ayah V-9:70-71,” Has not the story reached them of those before them? - The people of Nuh (Noah), 'Ad, and Thamud, the people of Ibrahim (Abraham), the dwellers of Madyan (Midian) and the cities overthrown [i.e. the people to whom Lout (Lot) preached], to them came their Messengers with clear proofs. So it was not Allah Who wronged them, but they used to wrong themselves. The believers, men and women, are Auliya' (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); they perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.”
Muslims were warned to keep unity among themselves, pass life like brethren, and support the deprived. They were made conscious not to trust some Ahl-e-kitab who are against them and to be alert of their cunning intentions and hypocrisy. Despite stated in the given Ayah, certain Muslim rulers disobeyed the words of Allah and rather used their friendship to crush other sovereign Muslim states. The Middle East is an open reality that Muslims are meeting the same ends as the destroyed Ahl-e-kitab. Irrespective of a country, sect, language, culture or color, if one is bent upon following personal goals over the Holy Command, the fate of Yemen and Saudi Arabia is a great lesson to learn from personal discretion.
Irrespective of religious concepts, the basis of each theology is based on sound application of moral and ethical code of ethics. The world civilizations rise and fall too depending on the discipline and following of these rules. History is full of incidents when affluent great nations lost their control and fame when their people indulged in subjective preferences, ignored the law of justice, met their end with disgrace and humiliation, while those who followed the golden rules of ethics became the masters.
In this regard, Muslim rise and fall is great example when they preach, advise, criticize other nations but are quite empty hand in practicing the ethical and moral golden rules of the Qur’an, which is the continuation of previous holy books sent for the correction of various human civilizations. The new generation has left their elders and preachers to follow the western civilization’s application of discipline and certain logical principal of human rights against the stale society and culture based on individual ranks in life affairs. In this way, mere role of orthodox thought and illogical stories based on miracles of great saints does not appeal to their senses, so they praise and prefer the western system based on capitalism. In fact, they forget the history of world civilization is based on when its people, at the peak of progress, meet a natural fall and its habitants became extremist, lose moral rules, lose discipline, apply personal preferences and are lost in self-superiority as an undefeatable force. Law of nature prevails for the present advanced nations and haughty leaders who all will have to face the fate one day.
Despite differences in a nation, culture, caste, gender, sect, etc., it is alarming to reset mental frequency based on a moderate line of action and ethical and moral praises for generating peace within one’s self and fellow human beings. Time is precious as time and tide waits for no body and as you sow so shall you reap, justice prevails and extremity falls. So, one has to take preconscious measures as each moment is costly and won’t be repeated.
Islam is not just a philosophy or strict rules rather pillars of peaceful living in asocial set-up under disciplined humanity. The Islamic values are old established principles for self-correction under confusion or time of testing, narrated by the Creator for the betterment of His people. It is based on logic with preventive and curative measure to derailed people. Caution is provided with law of reinforcement that each and every deed whether overt or covert will be accounted for and justice will be done against the extremist.
ISLAM BASED ON MENTAL HYGIENE UNDER LAW OF PEACE & PATIENCE IN LIFE
One of the present-day sources of evil emerging in social media is when people have no control on mouth, hand, words and texting as an addiction in elaborating one’s territory over others, creating trouble and restlessness in the people around. Islamic heritage is based on strict control over tongue, hand and to avoid such meetings where people are ridiculed, trespassing over others’ territory, and talk to offend others, rather than saying salaam (peace). Only those people are declared righteous (momin) and champion who are humble, have patience and are committed to the will of Allah in deeds, rather than claiming to be preferred creatures among other nations. In fact, Islam means peace, so Muslims are directed to share peace, be generous to each other, avoid loose talk or spread rumors or labelling other and creating fasaad (disturbance) among fellow humans. Therefore, greeting, hugging, encouraging and meeting even strangers with a smile, and greeting in public congregations on Eid festival is social sharing. A sharp yard stick for momin to succeed for the life returns V-23:1-11,” Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Salat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allah has forbidden). And those who pay the Zakat. And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, for then, they are free from blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors; Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat (all the duties which Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts etc.) and to their covenants; And those who strictly guard their (five compulsory congregational) Salawat (prayers) (at their fixed stated hours).These are indeed the inheritors. Who shall inherit the Firdaus (Paradise). They shall dwell therein forever.”
Under temptation, aggression, depression or acute mental pressure, mankind has no control, turn extremist and/or harm others’ mental harmony, and Qur’an presents the golden principles of passing life in peace among the fellow human beings by sharing good wishes among each other. The information is presented with preventive and curative measures to come out of worldly sufferings. It is precisely quoted to follow the moderate or middle path to pass a normal life. Keeping human nature in view, some of the surah like Luqman, An-Nissa, Bani Israel, Al-Hujuraat, Al-Qisas, Al-Mamnoon are full of advice to mankind. It is narrated in V-4:36-40,” Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), the neighbor who is near of kin, the neighbor who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not like such as are proud and boastful; Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other men and hide what Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment. And (also) those who spend of their substance to be seen of men, and believe not in Allah and the Last Day [they are the friends of Shaitan (Satan)], and whoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as an intimate; then what a dreadful intimate he has! And what loss have they if they had believed in Allah and in the Last Day, and they spend out of what Allah has given them for sustenance? And Allah is Ever All-Knower of them. Surely! Allah wrongs not even of the weight of an atom (or a small ant) but if there is any good (done), He doubles it, and gives from Him a great reward.”
Islam promotes sharing peace and easiness among fellow men adds peace and harmony in society. So, one should create harmony instead of labelling, criticizing other behavior as one will be called to question about his own deeds. One should act what one claims or says, as Allah does not like hypocrites but men of action. It is reminded in V-28:54-56,” These will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided them. And when they hear Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk), they withdraw from it and say: "To us our deeds, and to you your deeds. Peace be to you. We seek not the ignorant." Verily! You (O Muhammad) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.”
It is guided that mankind should respect individuality and not make fun, never criticize or stare at each other, avoid hurting other’s ego since that person may be far better than you as Allah knows the intention and covert deeds of people. Moreover, never back-bite as it is adding sins without any purpose by creating disturbance and distraction in society.

SELF PEACE IS HIDDEN WITHIN SELF-CONTENTMENT
Tawakal is the peace of mind by trusting the support of the Master. In this respect, Allah blesses with courage those who believe in Him by promising everlasting paradise and peace on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, whoever develop contentment (trust and patience in the Lord) in life, remain mentally healthy and richest creature on earth as they are free of doubt, greediness and envy, enjoying the provisions without any restlessness for hoarding wealth about future uncertainty. It is no doubt great news for righteous persons who submit to the will of the Provider. Qur’anic words are repeated that Allah rewards labor without discrimination. So, Allah has provided his gracious reward for His people to reduce worrying about punishment. Even those bad deeds done without senses, like a mad person, will not be punished till it is done with niyah of extremity. Muslims are reminded to control selfish wishes but they will be penalized on acting out the evil deeds and blessings are given on the intention of performing based on the set criteria of reward but are punished only when evil deeds are practically done.Although Allah is generous to His desirable creature and promises good status on good deeds and even will forgive other sins, He declared that He has no place for the disobedient people like polytheists who will be placed in hellfire forever. Maturity is the age of comprehending when each overt or covert behavior is recorded and placed in the amalnama for the final judgment. Those who have abnormalities by birth will be treated according to their sense and intentions.It is reminded in the Qur’an while addressing the mistakes of Ahele Kitab that no nation can change till intended for a change. Solutions are provided if one may have intention to change even up to death, in 26:80,” And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;”Islamic practices demand purity and devotion by connecting to the will of Allah. It is against ritual, exhibition and fantasies in the process of religious activities. As Allah is aware of each covert deed, He places emphasis on the quality as it is above the quantity, wealth or power. Spirit needs soothing on inner peaceful directions which is achieved through commitment in deeds for the approval of the Lord only.At times smart and cunning people try to fool the innocent with rosy words to gain benefit, which is prohibited in Islam as a munafiq (hypocrite). In fact, cleverness can give timely pleasure but have to pay the price of constant fear of exposure of facts in the long run. A simple straightforward person may be temporarily tricked but carries mental peace free of guilt feelings. Islam directs to stick to present and work with good intention as well as betterment of human beings. So, one should pay attention to immediate task in hand, have short goals with immediate action, feel happy on steady progress and have calculated risks. Allah dislikes self-torture (zulm) and directs to follow moderate line according to one’s own capacity with the blessings of the Almighty Allah who provides hidden sources and ultimate success to people with patience. So, one should always look for the kindness of the Master and appreciate the self who is holding you against the worldly challenges. Never be disgusted or cruel to self over people’s remarks as fear of criticism. Nobody understand your limits, pains as they have not to labor for you, as if you are spanking yourself, so in the long run, self will become stubborn to follow your command, like a stubborn donkey who think its master has no regard for its tiresome labor and sits down in spite of harsh beatings.Even in religious affairs, mankind is provided freedom of choice to make decision with reasoning as it will be accounted with a right to decide. So, it is revealed in V-2:256,” There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.”Human being has limitations and not have Divine power of the universal control over people. So, one must be rational and learn how to compromise, share and rejoice in a group unit as a social being, not a lonesome wild creature. Islam emphasizes moderation and is against any type of extremity. Sometimes Muslims, due to ignorance, misinformation, disinformation and exaggeration in religious practices, leave moderation and forget Allah is merciful and aware of individual intentions but due to anxiety or desire to be unique, get trapped in compulsive and obsessive ritual which is against the theological spirit. So, self-perfection is self-injurious and self-killing without any gain. Without any logic or sense of individual capacity under a situation, it ends with rigidity, self-hatred, low self-esteem, and loss of self-control over ideation leading to depression, irritation, confusion, etc. The second name of abnormality is extremity. So, always one must avoid extremity in thoughts or action, which is painful without any direction in mental functioning. Islam is based on peace, brotherhood, mutual respect, sharing and supporting the deprived in life affairs. As it takes two to make a row and one + one may turn eleven, in this world one needs same level friends to share moments of peace and pleasure. Locating the right one is the art of achieving mutual goals. So, one should search for a sincere person and not a face for positive feedback in life. Therefore, one should be happy with whatever is blessed by seeing how much he is better than other people. It is foolishness to waste the momentum of happiness or energy in comparison; rather seek pleasure and height under you as it is relaxing and strengthening for the next goal. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush. Self-hurting is abnormality, without any cost or gain in life.Islam provides reasoning and there is no compulsion in it. Even all prophets will be treated equally as individuals as the Prophet was also basically a human messenger but has exceptional role in receiving wahi (revelation) for human beings, so he will be treated like other human beings. The Prophet was not aware of information about all the previous nations and prophets but only as it was revealed to him by the Qur’an, V-20:99-102.Justice is the law of nature, so mankind has been strictly ordered that it should prevail over all relations or interests in life. There is no favoritism or discrimination of sex, color, caste, nation, etc., in accountability as all are alike the children of Adam. The people will think that they remain in the world for a day when rebirth process will be started on Qimat. So, they should not waste time in the luxuries of life, but rather prepare for the accountability of the deeds, V-20:103-108 & 113-114.In the lifespan mental peace is within self and intentions. Those who struggle with good intentions are rewarded accordingly as testing is the process of reformation in life. Therefore, it is narrated that self-control of personal wishes is the best jihad/struggle in Islam. Life success and eternal award is within an individual’s own self as human deeds are based on the principle, “AS YOU SOW, SO SHALL YOU REAP”. Instead of worrying with envy and losing mental peace, one should focus on sources, limitations and set energy to achieve a goal without prior expectations. Allah warns that He will award according to individual capacity only. So, instead of wasting time in fantasies, blaming bad luck, he may follow the truth as “CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR CLOTH”. It is an old misconception that some miracles will appear, rather one should apply senses that “ALLAH IS NOT YOUR SERVANT TO WORK FOR YOU”. Islamic mental health principles are based on the importance of time and it is stressed to not waste as each moment is counted to see how a person utilized it for human betterment, etc. The present time (not thinking of past failures/sins or daydreaming about rosy future plans) and intentions are appreciated in performing a deed as PAST HAS GONE AND NO-ONE HAS SEEN THE FUTURE. In this regard, mankind is provided insight to use wisdom as praying is the thankfulness for the provisions to him as a mindful creature to decide his fate. MIRACLES ARE SEF-MADE DREAMLAND, so, it is misunderstanding that Allah will work for your achievements, as he himself has to explore and face challenges by using the given insight. The historical data is provided that only those people make their life success who labor while others are wasting time in fun and pleasure as time and tide waits for nobody and “LABOR HAS ITS OWN REWARD”. While sharing, one should have empathy instead of sympathy as sympathy is an over-whelming state of subjectivity where the sympathizer also loses the emotional strength and objectivity so how such person can be supportive and beneficial to other if he loses his own power and authenticity under subjectivity. Qur’an always directs for the middle path even in good deeds as narrated in Bani Israel………Finally, like a driver, a person has full control how to use his car, either hit the brakes or overspeed, crush or provide ride to other, commit accident, sit down and dream or use for ill motives, etc. Freedom of choice with senses means ready to face it even if one is czar or pharaoh, as all are created for a time and die definitely after the fixed period, so He will re-create for a fair judgment without discrimination of the worldly status. Rationally, the more a person is provided, the more accountability be done to see how he has utilized the sources and shared with the needy and deprived people around him.

PATIENCE, PROVISIONS, PEACE AND CONTENTMENT WITHIN “ME”
Although Adam was selected the naib, all angel except Iblees bowed down to him on the order of Allah, and he was provided all facilities in paradise, over abundance, he was derailed by temptations and lost Patience & Insight (Taha).As the sole Creator of the universe is concerned for the betterment of the living beings, He is generous in provision and forgiveness. Among all the righteous high rankers are those who keep patience and have tolerance in life under the will of God. They do not complain or react harshly under hardship as they believe that their Lord knows better how much they deserve under the circumstances by enjoying the provision, and unlike greedy and impatient people, they remain happy and content in life. Therefore, as patience has its own reward, they feel peace and they are rewarded for it in and after life. On the other hand, the greedy one who has insecurity, keeps on hoarding through fair and foul means but never gets peace and keeps on grabbing through extreme and abnormal means by aggressively possessing others’ property, wealth and rights. In the end, they die with open-hands in a miserable state by leaving all possessions in this world. They will have to face the Judgment Day, as it is stated in V-2:23,” And fear the Day (of Judgement) when no person shall avail another, nor shall compensation be accepted from him, nor shall intercession be of use to him, nor shall they be helped.”Allah has mentioned that those who think they are not touchable for their corrupt measures will have to face hard punishment for their impatience attitude in life. So, they are warned to get insight in V-2:188,” And eat up not one another's property unjustly (in any illegal way e.g. stealing, robbing, deceiving, etc.), nor give bribery to the rulers (judges before presenting your cases) that you may knowingly eat up a part of the property of others sinfully.”On the other hand, those who have strong faith and are mentally connected, feel shelter, backing and might in working for prosperity and keep praying for it in life for support. So, even under testing, one should feel content with whatever one is blessed and with patience look for hidden resources of the Almighty Allah. The hidden resources are disclosed as a reward of Tawakal-e-Khuda. Like prophet Moses, when he rushed to Mediana for his life and at a well helped the weak women in water for their sheep, he sat down starving under a tree, prayed to Lord that he is a faqir (beggar/needy) of His mercy to get food. All of a sudden, the women returned with the message of their father to pay him for his labor in helping with the water. So, he got his need not only met but stayed and married one of the ladies on a contract of ten years. Later on, while returning to his native land on a tough cold night, he saw fire for where he was granted prophethood.In fact, human nature is restless and looks for power and prosperity. They are happy with the Lord under prosperity but when they are in trouble due to extremity, they blame Allah for bad luck. This fact is narrated for the awareness in a common person in V-30:33-36,” And when harm touches men, they cry sincerely only to their Lord (Allah), turning to Him in repentance, but when He gives them a taste of His Mercy, behold! a party of them associate partners in worship with their Lord. So as to be ungrateful for the graces which We have bestowed on them. Then enjoy (your short life); but you will come to know. Or have We revealed to them a Scripture, which speaks of that which they have been associating with Him? And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy, they rejoice therein, but when some evil afflicts them because of (evil deeds and sins) that their (own) hands have sent forth, lo! They are in despair!”
